On Food, Culture, and Everything in Between

I’m a cook, I could write a whole chapter in a book about my experiences in the kitchen but plenty of people have done that already so I don’t think that my contribution will bring anything of value. Yes, the industry is complex, we all know it, we have known for years, and yet nothing has changed. Besides, I haven’t worked long enough in the industry to consider myself a credible source. I could certainly write an essay about why I think nothing changes despite all that is known about the industry; but that’s also not what I want to do today or any time in the foreseeable future. Instead, I want to write about food, not about food itself though; rather, I want to talk about the cultural essence of food, the politics of food, and everything in between, such as the structures that uphold and perpetuate the unethical, uncontrolled consumption of certain types of food over other types.

Unfortunately for you (or fortunately, depending on the reader), you won’t see me much around here. As I said earlier, I’m a cook, this is my main line of work, and that little bit of time that I find in between fulfilling my personal needs, my professional needs and maintaining a social life (or trying to), I’d like to use it to either write, read, or play video games. Nevertheless, I will try my best to make sure that whenever I decide to show myself around here, my work meets the highest possible quality standards (relative to myself, of course).

I had been wanting to do this for a while, and I always told myself that I wasn’t ready, that I had to do more research, that I had to practice my writing skills a bit more, and so on. Then I remembered the advice I had been given by a stranger once: “How do you know if you’re not ready to do something if you haven’t actually tried to do it?” So here I am, trying to do something new for myself, in many ways, this is nothing but a simple experiment, an attempt at something new; I have no expectations about what will come of it, and neither should you.

That being said, I am currently working on an article which I intend to submit by the end of the month if possible, and I have several ideas in mind for other articles. I hope you enjoy reading my content. But most importantly, I hope that I do.
